Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most about going solar.

What is solar energy?

Solar energy is power generated from sunlight. Photovoltaic (PV) panels convert light directly into electricity that can run your home, business or factory.

How does a solar panel work?

Solar cells inside the panel absorb sunlight and release electrons, which creates direct current (DC). An inverter then converts it into alternating current (AC) that your appliances use.

How much solar capacity do I need?

It depends on your monthly electricity consumption, the shadow-free roof area available and your budget. Our Solar Calculator gives a quick estimate, and a site visit gives an accurate one.

How long do solar panels last?

Quality solar panels are designed to keep producing power for 25 years or more. Output declines very slowly over time.

What is net metering?

Net metering lets you send surplus solar power to the grid and receive credit for it against the electricity you draw. Rules and approvals depend on your state and electricity distribution company.

What is the maintenance requirement?

Solar systems need very little maintenance. Keeping the panels clean and having wiring, structure and inverter inspected from time to time is usually enough.

How much can I save with solar?

Savings depend on your consumption, tariff, system size and sunlight at your location. Many customers see a large reduction in their electricity bill. Use our calculator for an estimate for your case.

How long does installation take?

A typical rooftop system is installed within a few days once designs and approvals are ready. Larger commercial and industrial projects take longer. [CONFIRM TYPICAL TIMELINES WITH YOUR TEAM]

Is solar suitable for commercial and industrial use?

Yes. Businesses with high daytime electricity use often benefit the most, because the power the system produces is used as it is generated.

What affects solar system cost?

System size, quality of panels and inverter, mounting structure, roof type, site conditions and approvals all affect the final cost. We give a clear written quote after a site assessment.
